Learn How to Migrate Groupwise to Office 365

One of the advanced cloud-based application is Office 365 that reduces data storage cost and enhances efficiency of the organization. GroupWise is a messaging platform, developed by Novell which is desktop mail application based on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. Groupwise offers emailing, calendaring, instant messaging, personal information management, and document management features. Migration Process to Forward Groupwise Email to Outlook 365

The process to migrate Groupwise to Office 365 is done through a two step process in which you need Groupwise archive to Outlook and then move Outlook to Office 365. In order to move the Groupwise email to Outlook manually you need to follow these steps:

  1. Under Microsoft AD Network » Open GroupWise
  2. Open the Inbox and click new folder that is called GW Archives
  3. At top most menu click File tab and click on Import tab
  4. Now in the Import export wizard go to Import from another program or file option
  5. Now Click on Next and within Select file type to import from option select Outlook .pst format and click on Next

This will move Groupwise email to Outlook email client.

Now user need to move these Outlook files to Office 365 account so that they can access the Groupwise email and other data items in Exchange account. To migrate Outlook to Office 365 you need to use these steps:

If your .pst is not already opened in Outlook 2013/2016, choose File | Open & Export

  1. Choose Open Outlook Data File
  2. Find your .pst file (either C: or H: drive), select it and click Open.
  3. In your Office 365 folder list, right click on your email address (or account name) and choose New Folder
  4. Name the folder (e.g., pst folder contents)
  5. Next, in the folder list, locate your .pst file and click the arrow to expand the list of folders.
  6. Select a folder and drag it to the new folder you just created under your Office 365 mailbox.
  7. Repeat for each folder you need to move.
  8. When finished, right click on the .pst folder and choose Close “foldername”
