Novell Groupwise To Office 365: Tutorial

Novell has developed a desktop-based email client. This email application supports emails, calendaring, personal information manager, document management and instant messaging. On the other hand, Office 365 is a cloud-based service, which is developed by Microsoft Corporation. This includes different software applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. Sometimes, users want to transfer GroupWise data to Office 365 due to different reasons like:

Methods to Migrate Novell GroupWise to Office 365

Manual Method
There are two manual methods to export GroupWise to Office 365.

Solution 1: Migration Using GroupWise Connector

Users can use GroupWise connector 7.0 software to convert GroupWise data to Office 365.This manual method is very efficient and easy to use.

Steps to Install GroupWise Connector 7.0

  • Firstly, download gw301olc.exe (GroupWise client installation file)
  • Now, in Windows, click on Start, then on Run and finally on Browse
  • In the root directory on the local drive choose the setup.exe file
  • Next, click on OK. As soon as you click on this, the GroupWise connector 7.0 program will run.
  • Then, to install the software, follow the instructions mentioned in the GroupWise Connector for Outlook Installation

Solution 2: Prepare the GroupWise Environment

  • Firstly, start GroupWise ConsoleOne then, move to GroupWise Agent Settings.
  • Check the option of Enable SOAP, to enable SOAP on Post Office Agent(POA)
  • Then, generate the list of the user via GroupWise ConsoleOne portal

Note: For one POA you need to create only one user list and then, shift all users to one MigrationWiz mailbox project. However, if there are various POAs then create a user list for each POA and then, transfer the users to all MigrationWiz project.

  • In the next step, create a trusted application key, which is used to transfer GroupWise with the help of administrative credentials

Prepare the Office 365 Environment

  • Create an administrator account on MS Office 365 for the process of migration.
  • Set-up accounts and then, assign the licenses

Steps for MigrationWiz

  • Firstly, create a Mailbox Migration project
  • Then, add those accounts, which you want to transfer to the project
  • Put the Advanced options of the project
  • Check the Use impersonation at Destination box
  • Set Maximum concurrent migrations
  • Add folder mapping
  • After this, run verified credentials and send the email to the users to inform them that the migration is occurring
  • Pre-Stage pass: Choose the users, and click on Start. After that, under the drop-down list of Migration Scheduling section, choose Pre-Stage Migration>>90 days ago >>Start Migration
  • MX Record Cutover. Change over MX records, which is on the DNS provider’s portal. You need to include the AutoDiscover (CName) setting
  • Send email to end users and inform them that what to expect for their Outlook profile reconfiguration
  • Full pass: Choose users and then click on Start>>Full Migration >>Start Migration
  • Now, run retry error
  • To proceed further, look the list of the user and click on any red “failed migration” errors. After that read the information and act accordingly
  • If you still facing the same issue then, you need to contact the Support team
  • If you are not using DeploymentPro then you must create new Outlook profile, set up their signatures again, and then once again attach the PST files that were previously attached to the Outlook profile
  • After this, click on the icon of pie chart in the MigrationWiz dashboard and receive an email containing all the project migration statistics.

Limitations of Manual Method

  • The manual methods to migrate Novell GroupWise to Office 365 are lengthy and users have to devote much time.
  • Users with less technical knowledge cannot migrate Novell GroupWise data to Office 365
